December Newsletter: The Good, the bad and the Ugly

December 5th, 2011

If you have ever seen the 1966 classic movie; the good the bad and the ugly directed by Sergio Leone and starring Clint Eastwood you would know the title of the movie was not exactly apt.

Though there were 3 main characters in the movie; ugly was ugly and bad was bad, but no one in the movie was good. Except if good meant good shooter. Also good and ugly were actually partners in crime. Partners that maintained a hate relationship.

This newsletter also follows the non accurate nomenclature as the definition of good, bad and ugly is left to your discretion.

We are now in December; the last month of the year. So, this piece of mail is the last newsletter from CashEnvoy in 2011. It is a time to quickly reflect on the achievements of the last 12 months, scrutinize the disappointments and also set a frame work for the expectations of the coming year.

Ted Turner (founder of CNN and largest land owner in USA) said in the preface of his autobiography, “I don’t spend a lot of time dwelling on the past; one of the reasons have been able to accomplish as much as I have is because I prefer to live in the present while spending my spare moments thinking about the future.”

Taking a cue from that, we would do exactly likewise. Live in the present and start planning for the future.

2012 is going to be a beautiful year. A lot of things are expected to happen (not including the world ending like it did in the movie 2012), so feel free to categorize them as you see fit.

In 2012, the CBN Cashless policy will start taking shape. We also have the deadline for the new car number plate, the deadline for new driver’s license and the big one, the fuel subsidy removal.

From the CashEnvoy team, we come bearing gifts. We plan on releasing more payment options, thereby increasing payment alternatives for merchants to receive payment and more options for users to pay through.

We would also release our Merchant Referral Reward program and keep focusing on our fast growing number of users (great people like you).

Another big one for 2012 is the CashEnvoy e-commerce convention. Further details would be sent as the New Year commences.

As we all brace ourselves for 2012, the proposed fuel subsidy removal and other ripple effects that would come along with it, we wish you success in all your endeavours. All the best during the holidays and a very happy new year in advance.

November Newsletter: Gone Till November and Our Anniversary

November 3rd, 2011

Quoting the urban dictionary, Gone till November means leaving town for an extended period with plans to return. Some of the good things in the country and our lives may be gone; we pray they all return this November.

This month, we celebrate our second anniversary. Don’t start picking out aso-ebi yet. There’s no party. Just a time to thank God and reflect quietly on how far we’ve come in the last two years and where we want to be in the next two years. Challenges have been myriad.  In fact, they occur daily, but we continue to find ways to overcome them.

CashEnvoy’s growth can be described as “gifts within the gift”. As you unwrap the main present, there are other smaller gifts waiting to be unwrapped. As the months roll on, we keep unfolding better ideas, concepts and innovation to serve you better. It’s a gift that never ends.

Please forgive the gift metaphor. The anniversary and coming festivities (Ile-ya and Christmas) are to blame.

Our steady growth shows our determination, perseverance and passion to excel. As we move into our third year, we would copy the MTN 10 year anniversary advert slogan and say THE BEST IS YET TO COME.

Then we would end ours with WE PROMISE.

October Newsletter: Independence, October and the coming weeks

October 2nd, 2011

Happy Independence!!!

Nigeria is 51. The most populous black nation in the world is 51. Most Nigerians believe we have nothing to celebrate amidst the bombings, lack of security and infrastructure.

Nigeria was the 25th African country to gain independence after  Ethiopia(the only African country that was never colonized),Liberia, Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Tunisia, Morocco, Ghana, Guinea, Cameroon, Senegal, Togo, Mali, Madagascar, Congo, Somalia, Benin, Niger, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Chad, Central African Republic, Congo and Gabon.

From the same line of thought, comparing Nigeria to Liberia who gained independence in 1847, Nigeria has not done that bad.

We should be grateful for the 12 years of uninterrupted democratic governance and relative peace. Emphasis on the word ‘relative’.  So, with a belief that things are not really bad now and will only get better, I’ll say we thank God for Nigeria and give 51 hearty cheers to the motherland.

October

October is the tenth month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian (presently used) calendars and one of seven months with a length of 31 days. The eighth month in the old Roman calendar, October retained its name (from the Latin “octo” meaning “eight”) after January and February were inserted into the calendar that had originally been created by the Romans. The Romans later renamed months after Julius Caesar and Augustus, renaming Quintilis  as Iulius (July) in 44 BC and Sextilis (“sixth month”) as Augustus (August) in 8 BC.

October signals the beginning of the last quarter of the year. It means people can gear up their lives and race to finish the year with a bang.

Coming Weeks

In the next few weeks we are looking forward to paying back our loyal users by giving bonuses. All successful transactions would attract a percentage bonus that would be paid into the user’s CashEnvoy account. We will also release an updated payment API that will give users more payment choices on merchant’s site.

We could also go with a new sleek look, dye our hair, wear sunglasses, gear up and make sure we finish the year with that Bang.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE
